The Office of the Controller of Examinations was established from the conferment of Autonomy to the institution in the year 2024 and functions as an independent unit in a separate wing. The Examination Cell is headed by the Chief Controller of Examinations, the Principal, administered by the Controller of Examinations, assisted by the other staff of the cell. The Examination Cell has been constituted as per the regulations of the University Grants Commission and Periyar University and approved by the Finance Committee and the Governing Body of the college.
The Controller of Examinations office has been in operation to conduct end-of-semester exams. In order to conduct exams and publish the results, the Office of the Controller of Examinations has the necessary equipment, including computers, printing and photocopying facilities, a and enough personnel. The theory answer scripts are evaluated using the central value methodology. In order to preserve confidentiality, dummy numbers are utilized. The CoE office adheres to a meticulously organized academic timetable. Both continuous assessment and end-of-semester exams serve as the foundation for evaluation.

To be the highest level of academic achievement, guaranteeing aspiring students the ongoing improvement of highquality, accessible, equitable, and calm higher education.
Choice based credit system is offered for both UG and PG candidates. It is aimed that the students will have the option and flexibility in taking up courses of their choice and interest such that enable and ensure them more employable in the most competitive job arena. Each course is associated with a Credit value of 140 credits for all UG courses. All other PG courses have 90 credits when they successfully complete the Programme. Semester System with both internal and external evaluation is followed.
Question Paper Setters and Examiners for valuation are selected by the Controller of Examinations from the Panel, which includes experienced faculty members from various colleges and universities. These panels are prepared by different Boards of Studies and approved by the Academic Council.
The End Semester Examination Pattern is followed. The examinations include written, practical, and viva voce components. These are conducted by the Chief Superintendent assisted by the Additional Chief Superintendent, along with both internal and external Hall Superintendents.
The Institution has a well-defined performance assessment system of the learning levels of the students. Semester pattern of Examination System with Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and End Semester Examination (ESE) followed under Autonomy. The students are evaluated for both CIA and ESE. Internal Assessment on continuous basis is done for 25% for theory and 40% for practical subjects and the remaining being evaluated in the End Semester Examinations. The break-up marks for CIA are Assignments 5 marks, Tests 10 marks and 3-hour Model Examination 10 marks.
The Learning Levels of the students assessed through Continuous Assessment which includes three Internal Tests of one-hour duration Two Assignments with sufficient interval of time. Continuous Internal Examination is monitored by the respective Head of the departments The students are informed well in advance the date of the test to be held and the course content in which the test to be carried. After each Internal Test, the faculty advisors personally counsel the students who did not attend the test or did not submit the assignments. Periodical Parents Meetings are conducted every year before the distribution of mark sheets to the students in the department by the faculty head.
Assessment of students for End Semester Examinations made by both Internal and External Examiners at the ratio of 25 % and 75%. However, the question papers for all courses are set by the External Examiners only. The Examination System in the PGP college has been computerized right from the stage of registration of candidates in the first semester till the publication of results and the issue of consolidated mark statements in the final semester.
For the evaluation of answer scripts detailed scheme of valuation for the question papers is given to the examiners for the purpose of maintaining uniformity in valuation After the evaluation by the examiners, tabulation of marks is also done by the tabulators specifically assigned for this purpose, to eliminate errors if any, in the totaling of marks awarded to the candidates by the examiners.
Practical Examination is conducted with one internal and one external Examiner.

Candidates involved in Malpractice during the semester examinations should appear before the Discipline Committee on the prescribed date and time announced by the Controller of Examinations. The Discipline Committee will decide the punishment to be given to the candidate as per the rules and regulations of the Periyar University.
Special Supplementary Examinations for the regular candidates (U.G.) who have arrear ANY ONE theory paper, the regular candidates (P.G) who have arrear papers in the IV Semester and ANY ONE theory paper in the remaining semester will be conducted within fifteen days after the publication of results of IV and VI semester examinations of PG and UG courses respectively and the results are published within fifteen days from the last date of the last supplementary examinations which enable the successful candidates to join for higher education or profession by avoiding wastage of one year.
The candidates who desire to obtain Xerox copies of the answer scripts can apply within five working days from the date of the publications of the results.
The candidates can apply for retotaling of answer scripts for theory papers within 10 days from the date of publication of results.
Revaluation system is adopted for the students of undergraduate courses. This system has been extended to PG courses also.
UG and PG candidates shall be given a chance to improve their performance in one or more theory papers in the immediate next semester examination. The candidates can also improve their performances in practical in the next / year examination.
A candidate who qualifies for the degree passing all the examinations in the first attempt, within the minimum
period prescribed for the course of study from the date of admission to the course and secures I or II class
shall be eligible for ranking and such ranking will be confined to 10% of the candidates qualifying for that
particular branch of study, subject to a maximum of 10 ranks.
The improved marks will not be taken into consideration for Ranking.
The internal audit committee constituted to scrutinize and verify the entries of the marks secured by the candidates appeared for End Semester Examinations which is to submit the report to the Principal/Controller of Examination for further action.
The Audit Committee is to make a thorough random check on the entries made in the mark sheets of UG and PG students appeared for the said examination.
The Register number of the candidate, dummy number, marks secured by the candidate in the external examinations in both theory and practical examinations to be verified.
The particulars like Name of the candidate, Register Number, Date of Birth Degree and Branch, Semester, Month and Year of Examinations Subject Code, Title of the Paper, Credits earned, Maximum marks, Marks secured by the candidate, Grade Points, Grades, the Result of the candidates printed in the mark sheets and the Photograph of the candidate to be checked by the Audit Committee before the distribution of the mark statements to the students.
To ensure genuineness of the Mark Statement, Consolidated Mark Statement and Pass Certificate more security features are incorporated and are issued to the successful students in the examinations. This avoids malpractices and mischief while enter into profession.
1.Admission to the examination is provisional.
2. The Hall ticket is issued subject to the candidate satisfying the Attendance and other requirements as per the Regulations. If later, it is found that the candidate fails to comply with the above requirements, the examinations written by the candidate will be treated as cancelled.
3. Candidate should produce the hall ticket on demand by the Invigilator / Chief Superintendent (CS) / Squad members.
4. Candidate shall not write anything in the hall ticket.
5. A seat marked with Register number will be provided to each candidate. Candidate will occupy the allotted seat at least 10 minutes before the commencement of the examination. In no case, candidate shall be allowed to occupy a seat other than the seat allotted to her.
6. Normally the candidate will not be permitted to enter the hall after the commencement of the examination. Only on extraordinary circumstances, the candidates will be permitted during the first thirty minutes of the examination after obtaining the written permission from the Principal / CS. Under any circumstances the candidate shall not be permitted to enter the hall after the expiry of first 30 minutes.
7. Candidate shall not be allowed to leave the examination hall before the expiry of 45 minutes from the commencement of examination. The candidate who leaves the examination hall during the period allotted for a paper will not be allowed to re-enter the hall within that period.
8. Candidate who is suffering from infectious diseases of any kind shall not be admitted to the examination hall.
9. Strict silence should be maintained in the examination hall.
10. Candidate is required to bring her own pens, pencils and erasers. Candidate should use only blue or black ink while answering her papers.
11. Before proceeding to answer the paper, the candidate should write her register number, semester, subject and date of the examination at the appropriate space provided in the first page of the answer book and nowhere else in the answer book or in any additional attachment like drawing sheet, smith chart etc.
12. Candidate shall write only the Register number in the space provided in the question paper. Any other writings in the question paper is prohibited and punishable.
13. If a candidate writes her register number on any part of the answer book / sheets other than the one provided for or puts any special mark or writes anything which may disclose, in any way, the identity of the candidate, she will render herself liable for disciplinary action.
14. Writing of wrong register number in the answer book will entail rejection of the answer book.
15. Candidate is not allowed to exceed the prescribed time assigned to each paper.
16. Candidate shall not talk / ask questions of any kind during the examination
17. Candidate shall not carry any written / printed matter, any paper material, cellular phone, pen drive, tablet, programmable calculator, any unauthorized data sheet / table into the examination hall and if anything is found in her possession, shall be liable for disciplinary action.
18. No candidate shall pass any part or whole of answer papers or question papers to any other candidate. No candidate shall allow another candidate to copy from her answer paper or copy from the answer paper of another candidate. If found committing such malpractice, the involved candidates shall be liable for disciplinary action.
19. Candidate found guilty of using unfair means of any nature shall be liable for disciplinary action.
20. Candidate will have to hand over the answer book to the invigilator before leaving the examination hall
The academic year shall normally be the period from June to May. Each academic year will be divided into two semesters, the Odd semester is from June to November and the even semester is from December to May..
The candidate shall be permitted to proceed to the courses of study in any semester, only if he/she fulfils the requirements of attendance, progress, and character and conduct in respect of the preceding semester and had registered for the highest semester examination for which he / she is eligible to register. He / She should compulsorily appear for the latest Semester Examination.
The guidelines of attendance requirement issued by Periyar University are adopted by the College. Attendance shall be considered semester wise (not annually).
A candidate shall be permitted to appear for the Semester examinations in any semester, if he/she secures not less than 75% of attendance in the total number of working days during the semester and if his/her progress has been satisfactory and his/her conduct has been satisfactory.
It is mandatory that each student shall have 75% attendance to appear for the Comprehensive
Those who have below 75% and above 65% attendance shall pay the condonation fee and write the examination in the same semester.
Those who have below 65% and above 50% attendance shall pay the condonation fee and write the examination in the forth coming semester after compensating for the loss of attendance. Those who have below 50% of attendance have to redo the semester.
